Tri State CareFlight 4 Crewmember Memorial
On the afternoon of June 30, 2005, Tri State CareFlight 4 of Durango was en-route from Mercy Regional Medical Center to a site about eight miles northeast of Mancos and 30 miles west of Durango to rescue an injured logger. At about 2 P.M. the Agusta A119 Koala crashed in a meadow ringed with Aspen trees taking the lives of three crewmen that devoted their lives to helping and saving others. Killed in the accident was Jim Saler, the Pilot, Bill Podmayer, a Flight Nurse and Scott Hyslop, a Flight Paramedic with the Durango Fire and Rescue Authority. |

| The Tri State CareFlight 4 Memorial page was put up to honor and pay tribute to Jim, Bill and Scott as well as acknowledge and thank the Crewmembers and Staff of Tri State CareFlight for continuing the mission of saving lives. If you did not have the privilege of knowing Jim, Bill or Scott personally, I invite you to click on their photos below and meet them. All three men left behind wives. Jim also left three daughters and Scott left a newly adopted son. |

Click above for a larger image The week after the accident I started an illustration of Tri State CareFlight 4 (an Agusta A119 Koala) titled "Angel of Mercy" dedicated to Jim Saler, Bill Podmayer and Scott Hyslop. I created the artwork to honor Jim, Bill and Scott, but also to raise money for the three families that they left behind. Even though the fund raiser has come to a close, there are leftover Angel of Mercy prints available. They are available to anyone for free, I only ask for $5 to cover the shipping and handling of the print. Like my military helicopter prints, "Angel of Mercy" was created through a pen and ink illustration technique called pointillism or stippling. It took me 120 hours to complete the piece by stippling with a 0.35 millimeter Rapidograph pen on heavy weight Bristol board. The original artwork measures 27" wide and has been printed in a Limited Edition quantity of 1000 on 24"x18" 80# archival McCoy Silk Cover. Each print is signed and numbered by myself and comes with it's own Certificate of Authenticity. Special thanks to Basin Printing & Imaging for donating the cost of printing the limited edition prints. If you wish to order a print: email me at aircav@frontier.net or call me at home 970-247-0715. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Memorial shirts honoring Jim, Bill and Scott are no longer available. Special thanks to Kirk James of James Graphics for the time he donated for his computer enhancement to my linework. Special thanks also goes to Frank McCue, owner of Hawkeye Graphics for printing the memorial shirts and sweatshirts at a discounted price for a year in order to help make this memorial and fund raiser a success.
